Hello!
You are currently in the "Intensives" section of the Mahapurna school.
An example of my previous intensives is here: Developing the Vision of Light

You may also find my topic useful: Victory over Addictions

We are now beginning an intensive course on overcoming any addiction on a scientific basis.

Features of the intensive:

  1. You will see the word [ЗАВИМОСТЬ] in square brackets — replace it with the name of your addiction. Literally give it a name. For example, instead of [ЗАВИМОСТЬ], enter "Alcohol", or, if someone prefers, "Booze", "Smoking", "Porn", "Workaholism", "Other people's opinions"... You can simply say it to yourself when reading my intensive course text.
  2. Everything is broken down into steps. The steps are simple. You just do them.
  3. Right now, you do not need to give anything up at all. That is, you do not need to quit or stop anything :) Freedom does not begin that way. Just do the Steps. You will figure out what to do about it along the way.
  4. And most importantly, everything is based on science. I will even specify which scientific findings are being used, with explanations.

LET'S BEGIN:

🔹 STEP 1. REALIZE THAT [ЗАВИСИМОСТЬ] — IS NOT YOU
🔸 Goal:

Separate your identity from your addiction. You are not your habit. It is a pattern, not your essence.

🔸 What to do:

  1. Name your addiction.
For example: "My addiction is [ЗАВИСИМОСТЬ]."
  2. Write down 5–10 phrases that usually appear in your mind before you act on the old habit.
    Examples:
    — "Just a little, it's no big deal"
    — "I need this right now to relax"
    — "I've held out for so long; I can allow myself this"
    — "I feel bad without [ЗАВИСИМОСТЬ]"
  3. Add this clarification to each phrase: "This is my addiction speaking, not me."
    For example:
"Just a little, it's no big deal" → "This is my addiction speaking, not me."

🔸 Why this matters:

Research shows that when a person calls the addiction a separate entity, the area of the brain responsible for impulse control (the prefrontal cortex) is activated, rather than the area responsible for automatic action (the basal ganglia).

You are learning to separate the impulse from the action. And that is the beginning of freedom.

🔸 Additional task:

Write a letter to your addiction.
Address it as a living being. Thank it for helping you cope with difficult moments, but say that you are now ready to take a different path.

Example:

"Hello, [ЗАВИСИМОСТЬ]. I understand why you were in my life. You gave me a sense of control, relaxation, and distraction. But now I want something different. I am ready to learn to live without you. With gratitude, but also with determination — I choose freedom."
You do not need to post plus signs.
But you are welcome to participate in the discussion and share your experience.

Continuing the live intensive. Today is Day 2—Step 2. And July 2, 2025.
Since my previous intensives at the Mahapurna School and in my Ashram, people have regretted that they "didn't know/pay attention/notice/missed" my intensives, such as the 2020 intensive: Self-Healing [Интенсив]
But now I am conducting another intensive. And of course, THIS time you "know/are paying attention/noticed everything/won't miss anything."

Before you move on to Step 2—write a short message (500 characters) explaining why you decided to take this intensive and whether you want to become freer from external programs that control you, making you do things that are destructive and interfere with living your life. Write anything you like on this topic. Perhaps you have successfully freed yourself or someone close to you.
Or perhaps you like being a dependent person and have already given up.

LET'S BEGIN:

Hello, OM Shanti 🙏. Addiction, cigarettes. I started a very long time ago, back when I was still a child. And as I write this now, I realize that even then I didn’t really want to. But apparently I was frightened by something. Maybe by pressure from others, and I gave in. Throughout the process, for as long as I can remember, there was always the thought of getting rid of it. But constantly, my brain would somehow switch off, and only after some time would you remember: You wanted to quit, didn’t you? And again... How much time has passed? A month, a year, five years... ? .. I have observed this process a lot. I can say that you want to smoke when you’re happy—fun, adrenaline, joy—you want to smoke. When you’re sad, melancholy, or gloomy—you want to smoke. In a word, before every significant action or event, after it, and even during it, you have to smoke. In general, I mean that it’s easier to maintain control when you’re calm. But when some kind of movement begins, you lose control. Or quite often it happens that you simply can’t do anything at all; you can’t even move from the spot until you smoke a cigarette, until you allow yourself to smoke a cigarette. Of course, afterward you feel a little sad that you broke down again, but at least you can more or less continue with your affairs... (and of course, because of this, you smoke another cigarette...). But if you try to start doing something through sheer effort without smoking beforehand, sometimes you don’t understand what you’re doing or how, and everything turns out rather jerky. Of course, I reached an understanding of probably the most important state: when the desire to smoke comes, you endure it and endure it, and at some point you simply can’t control yourself anymore... Thoughts or no thoughts, excuses or no excuses, you get up and go, smoke, and it becomes easier... After many years of smoking, all these problems become perfectly understandable—so much of it. I quit several times. It happened freely, easily, without any persuading myself or preceding rituals. But as far as I remember, I started again, just as I said above: a celebration, having fun (“Maybe just one cigarette with a glass of wine...?” I can say this to myself... “I haven’t smoked for a long time already... It’s nothing serious...”) .. Or, on the contrary, severe, severe stress, anxiety, fears, and when you’re already at the limit, the first thought is: Drop everything and go to the stall for cigarettes. There are states like that, when I understand what I’m doing. That is, I’m not asleep. And then I tell myself that today is a new day (I don’t necessarily say it aloud; I simply understand it), and now, for example, before lunch, I’ll smoke three cigarettes, and that’s all. By evening, everything seems fine. You feel as though it’s easy to hold on. Provided there are no strong emotional stresses, celebrations, sadness, and so on... But in the morning you wake up as if you’re in another world. First thing: tea and a cigarette. I love sports. There were times when I exercised in the morning, went for a run, and everything was fine. But an hour passes afterward, you calm down, and then—you should smoke a cigarette... Or there’s the state when you’re feeling positive, everything is great, you realize that you aren’t smoking, you’re happy, happy about everything, but then everything calms down, and some hidden melancholy comes rushing in. And you smoke not because something is wrong with you, but almost as a sign of solidarity with the world—that somehow everything is going awry. And then it all continues in circles again: many of these states and excuses, at different times, with varying intensity and in different forms.

Hello everyone, dear friends!
Yesterday I spent a long time thinking about which addiction I could get rid of now. I couldn’t understand what was binding me most strongly at the moment. I didn’t find the answer yesterday, but today, while cycling through the forest, I suddenly realized clearly what is getting in my way right now—and it is one of my fears. It has been following close behind me for a long time, and I know it very well. So that is the one I decided to get rid of.
In general, I have had successful experience overcoming one very unpleasant addiction. It was smoking. Many times in my youth I started and quit this habit, going through periods of withdrawal each time. It was unpleasant and quite difficult. Then, for some reason, I would return to it again. But one day I realized that things could not go on this way and gave it up forever. Some time after me, my husband also quit smoking. In other words, this addiction can be overcome with desire and persistence. I especially want to emphasize that I am still glad that I found the strength to give it up back then, because it is much easier for me to breathe now.

I hope that my dependence on my fear can be overcome just as well. I wrote it a letter. I think it heard me.)

Namaste. 🙏
I want to share a situation I have faced recently. And it happened more than once... We had been communicating for many years, and after I moved, we continued. Sometimes we met each other. We enriched each other with spiritual topics, and also simply as one woman with another. We called once a week so as not to annoy each other. We helped each other in any way we could. To others we are strangers, but when you have familiar people around, it is easier to cope.
I never thought that communicating with people, with friends, could become an attachment, an addiction. Although they say that communication is good and that one should not hide away. But it turns out that in life, when you communicate with someone for a long time, you get used to them, and they become almost like family. I communicate when I am joyful and well, and I communicate when I am not doing so well. Communication is like an exchange of energy, support: I share something, and she shares something. But then, after some time, they stop calling you for no reason, avoid you, do not reply... I do not know the reason. It is clear that this turn of events weighs heavily on my soul. It turns out that I have become dependent on communicating with my conversation partner. And finding someone like that takes time; it is not so simple. Such souls are few and far between.
Before her, many others had already drifted away; the reason is clear—everyone scattered to different corners of the world...
For me, this latest event became a lesson: I should not become attached to anyone at all. I am grateful to everyone who was with me for many years. I will continue learning to live without attachment to you. There is no resentment in my heart; I embrace and love you all. You were teachers and friends to me. With all my heart, I strive toward God. I listen to talks about Him, and visit Mahapurna and the Ashram. It is a great advantage in our time that the internet exists and that we can develop. Immense gratitude to OM Shanti for what you do!🙏☀

Hello, FRIENDS! I understand why you were in my life. You gave me a feeling of relaxation, a feeling of distraction, and support. I shared with you what I was living by, and you shared with me what you were living by. Now I want to live differently, without attachment to you. With gratitude and determination, I choose FREEDOM.

FRIENDS—COMMUNICATION:
-sharing new impressions—that is not me speaking; it is my addiction;
-sharing bad news when I am not feeling well;
-seeing new photos—that is not what I want, but what my addiction wants;
-hoping for support—that is not me speaking, but my addiction;
-finding out what they are living by—that is not something I want to know, but my addiction does;
-wanting to have warm relationships—that is not what I want, but what my addiction wants.
But I know that I have a relationship with God, which I will continue to deepen. God is Love, and He is infinite and constant. But people are changeable...

As I said in the article linked above, addictions are not limited to smoking, drugs, and alcohol...

Dependent relationships, for example. They are a terrible thing. Twenty years can pass in what feels like no time, and when people emerge from it, it is as though they have erased 20 years from their lives. As though they did not live that time at all.

Some people need to spend 20 years on this.
But the smarter ones take my intensives, which last 20 days :)

Namaste!
I’ve decided to say goodbye to my shyness! It prevents me from expressing myself, achieving success, standing up for myself, and helping other people.
Hello, shyness!
I understand why you were in my life. You gave me a sense of comfort and independence. But now I want something different. I’m ready to learn to live without you. With gratitude, but also with determination, I choose freedom.
—“I don’t want people to pay attention to me”—that’s my shyness speaking, not me!
—“I don’t want to stand out”—that’s my shyness speaking, not me!
—“I don’t want to be seen or noticed”—that’s my shyness speaking, not me.
—“Everyone already knows and can do this”—that’s my shyness speaking, not me.
—“People won’t understand me”—that’s my shyness speaking, not me.
Shyness, goodbye! I’m free!
Thank you!

My addiction is GUILT, and I want to get rid of it.
On the outside, everything looks good and wonderful, but observing everything that happens and how I react to situations, I noticed that I look at everything, or almost everything, through this censor—GUILT.
It looks so “noble” that it is almost unnoticeable, but you can’t deceive your heart.
Because of GUILT, my relationships with loved ones and other people become incomplete; it limits my opportunities and freedom.
I don’t want to justify my actions, but living with the burden of GUILT is difficult. I thought everything was in the past and that I was living a new life, but GUILT silently follows me.
GUILT intensifies my fears, creating a vicious cycle.
I will definitely write the letter. 🙏

I’m interested in taking the intensive course to understand myself better and better understand my behavior, since I have a tendency toward addictions. I know this and already pay close attention to inner manifestations, such as thoughts and sensations, looking for signs of a predisposition to addiction. I do this without tension; I simply know that I don’t want low-frequency states that addiction can lead me into. At this period in my life, this does not manifest in a way that is destructive to me, but I previously had an experience that showed me I could succumb to weakness in the form of negative actions toward myself and my well-being, with addiction developing further. However, I also can’t say that there is nothing I would like to change.

I definitely want to become independent of external programs that destroy my health and take away precious time. Most importantly, I sometimes catch myself thinking that, in principle, a person is given SO much, yet I am dependent, for example, on sugar and cannot give it up. If I do not get my sugar fix, everything I had planned to do, as well as my mood, will be ruined. To the point that eating my fill is more important to me than doing my practice or simply enjoying being alive. This means that I am not the master of myself. And in order to develop and realize my human potential, I need to be the master of myself, so overcoming dependency is above all an opportunity to become myself and be the cause in relation to my life. But as long as I allow these programs to tear me apart, nothing genuine will come of it. I have tried various methods, including willpower and promises to myself and others, but they did not help much. I would like to discover and apply a more structured and precise approach.

My addiction is food (overeating—a large amount of food in one sitting, dependence on a particular taste)
1. I have a lot to do; I need energy, I lack energy, I need to get on with the things that need doing, and I want a little pleasure, satisfaction, happiness. This is my addiction speaking, my restless mind. It is self-deception to think that by eating a large meal I will be more energetic during the day, feel good, and that my body-mind will be in a generally tolerable state.
2. I’d better eat a large meal so that I won’t have to eat during the day, and then I’ll eat less in the evening and go to bed earlier. This is my Addiction speaking, my greed, the desire to get more than I give.
3. I’ll finish this now (something I want, such as sweets) so that it won’t bother or distract me tomorrow, and tomorrow I won’t get anything like it. This is my addiction speaking, my greed, and my fear of repeating past mistakes.
4. I’ve done enough today; I can afford to eat something delicious (not the worst option, at least).
5. I’ll eat so I don’t have to think about my problems for a while. There’s too much going on—I need a break, I need a boost. This is my addiction speaking. There are other ways to get a boost; they just aren’t as appealing.
6. I’ll go have only tea or juice. This is my addiction speaking; it’s another trick. If you go to have tea, you won’t stop at that. (No one in your family drank plain tea.)
7. I had a bad day. Well, at least I can eat something delicious. This is my addiction speaking: an inability to hold pain in my heart, a critical lack of love in my heart.
8. I’ll eat now—what if there won’t be any later, what if this is my last day? There’s nothing more important in life anyway. This is my addiction speaking, my system of priorities.
Hello, Addiction. I understand why you were in my life. You helped me feel comfortable and cope with negative emotions, albeit at such a high price. You created the illusion of happiness. You brought me back to the state of being here and now. You also gave my life meaning (including controlling my desires and habits, struggling with passions and addictions, and “helping” other addicts), showed me my true face and what I am worth, revealed what my values are, protected me from real life, and kept me from overexerting myself or “being exhausted on the battlefield.” You showed me what being carried away by passions can lead to. Thank you for the lesson; it is enough. Our relationship has run its course, and neither of us will be interested in continuing together. I have goals for which I can easily give up my addiction and become a free person.

In the topic “What interests you in the field of esotericism at Mahapurna School,” I voted for holding intensives and joint practices as one of the options. Since registering with the school, I have actively followed it—or at least read and visited it—since 2023–2024. I noticed that wonderful intensives had been held before, and I had missed them. Now an intensive is being held again, and I am probably subconsciously very happy about it. Like the other students, I also notice how practices and articles appear at just the right time, as if by the wave of a magic wand, synchronistically. With my addiction, it is hardly possible to develop and learn anything, not only here. It takes up the lion’s share of my body’s resources; perhaps it is possible to live without it. It takes on a disproportionately large number of functions. It makes me weak and incapable of anything, let alone accomplishing any life tasks or pursuing self-development. It runs counter to all spiritual practices, teachings, and instructions. It is immoral for all normal people. It was, is, and will be so, at least in my lifetime; everyone feels this. It has become possible only in modern society—the consumer society, where, generally speaking, one can shut oneself away within four walls and where people show little interest in one another or in each other’s inner worlds. A society in which many substitutions and distortions of the value system have taken place, along with a lack of understanding of oneself, one’s goals, and one’s place in the world. And in this society, in our time, we are not yet being forcibly made to choose dependence and slavery to our instincts. There are worthy people—examples of those who are free from addictions, who live as Spirit and Soul, who are above all this, who feel, know, and fulfill their mission.

For some reason, I spent a long time thinking and choosing what to call my addictions. I identified two, but it feels as though they are actually one and the same, with common causes.
My addiction is overeating in the evenings and getting stuck scrolling through my phone feed/watching TV series.
I’m tired and need to rest (eat more than I should, watch a TV series)—that’s my addiction speaking, not me.
There’s a lot of information in my head, clients with their problems, and I need to distract myself—eat, scroll through my phone feed—that’s my addiction speaking, not me.
There’s an emotional emptiness inside, and I need to fill it with something—with food or a TV series—that’s my addiction speaking, not me.

Hello, my addiction.
You helped me a lot at one time. You gave me emotional fulfillment. But that time has now passed, and you are starting to get in my way. Now I want things to be different. I’m ready to learn to live without you. I want and am ready to fill my life with real emotions, not ones from TV series or food. I want and am ready to learn to live differently—to rest, switch off, and recharge in a more sensible and resourceful way. I choose freedom from you.

My addiction is overeating and having lots of sweets with tea, which can happen 5–6 times a day. When I was writing the first assignment, I suddenly realized why this happens. It is a desire to relax and enjoy myself. Most interestingly, I also felt that it wasn’t me who wanted this, but my addiction. A real separation took place. So I need to find other ways to relax—for example, rest, meditation, or other methods—and look for ways to try them. And they do exist; there are many different ones. Just a few days ago, OM Shanti gave us a relaxation practice, and I tried it and noticed how much tension there was in my body. This will be a great help in overcoming my addiction. While writing this text, I thought of other methods: reciting a mantra on prayer beads, reading the Bhagavad Gita or the Shrimad Bhagavatam. These always give me a very благостное sense of fulfillment.
For me, overeating and sweets have become a very serious health problem. This includes excess weight and illnesses associated with it, such as pancreatitis, hypothyroidism, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, and additional strain on my joints. All of this reduces my quality of life and prevents me from fully switching to a vegetarian diet because of the difficulty of eating legumes, which causes bloating.
I’m very happy to have the opportunity to take part in this intensive and become free from my addiction. It will give me good health and the realization of my true needs and desires.

Why do I want to take this intensive course? Probably to get rid of the remaining addictions that I am very prone to. There are so many of them that it seems they will never end. Of course, first and foremost, I want FREEDOM.
I have experience freeing myself from addictions to alcohol, eating meat, and smoking. By the way, I quit smoking using a very similar method proposed by Sergei Veretennikov. I bought an online course in which the most important thing was separating myself from the addiction: it was important to understand that I wanted to smoke ONLY because I had smoked a cigarette immediately beforehand. I managed to implant this thought in my brain, and everything went successfully.

Reading what the participants in the intensive course have written, I tried to understand which addiction constantly bothers me. And I think I have figured it out. It may seem strange—how could this be an addiction? But it seems that it can.
Pain has simply haunted me all my life!
Physical pain
Emotional pain
And all my life I have been trying to get rid of it, but it keeps coming back again and again. As soon as I find peace in something, it hooks me once more like a splinter. And my constant question is: why? Perhaps this really is just my addiction—such a strange one.
As I write this, I get the impression that it has latched onto me like an entity and does not want to leave me. Well then, I think I will write it a little letter.

Hello, my addiction, Pain. I am writing you this letter because I have realized that it is time for us to say goodbye. You did a lot to motivate me to make new discoveries and seek new solutions; you brought me to this wonderful website and introduced me to my teacher. You made me look for new things and study a great deal. And I simply want to say a huge thank you—you have been a very good teacher! But now, my dear Pain, I want to say goodbye to you forever. I no longer need your services; now I can make decisions independently. I have grown up, and I do not need you anymore!

Yes
Yes, pain is also an addiction. Because we can choose pain and suffering or joy and happiness.
In the USSR, many people were taught that they had to suffer. And the first thing foreigners who somehow miraculously end up here notice is that everyone looks gloomy. They ask, “What happened?”
“Nothing, it’s just a habit.”

My addiction is judging.
Hello, Judging!
I understand why you were in my life. You gave me a sense of support. Confirmation that everything was okay with me. That I was normal.

Instead of statements, questions arise for me when it comes to my addiction.
What kind of person is this? — my addiction is asking this, not me
What are they like? — my addiction is asking this, not me
What do they want? — my addiction is asking this, not me
How do they communicate? — my addiction is asking this, not me
Are they good or bad? — my addiction is asking this, not me
Is this person better or worse than me? — my addiction is asking this, not me
How is this person better or worse than me? — my addiction is asking this, not me

I’m not sure that questions are the right thing in this case, but I can’t manage to identify statements phrased as assertions.

I want to successfully complete this intensive course. I feel that my addiction takes up an enormous amount of my resources.
And I’m not sure, but I have a feeling that this addiction prevents me from seeing people as they really are.

Step 2
Why have I decided to completely and once and for all free myself from this addiction?
My 500+ characters:

Because it constrains me, prevents me from taking new steps toward my dream, and I cannot release the tension in my body around the Muladhara area.
I cannot fully devote myself to what I want to do. I have to work in places where I am tense and where a lot of strength and energy are drained. I do not want to live this way anymore; I have gained the experience, and that is enough. If I continue like this, I may develop health problems.
I realize that this is an external Program imposed by "fashion" and the idea that "everyone lives this way," and it destroys and programs my consciousness in a direction I do not want.
I know for certain that it is possible to get rid of this addiction. I have worthy examples of people who have overcome it! I am such a person myself; I have already partially freed myself and will continue to make a focused effort to free myself even more!
