DOOR
Author:
Sergey Veretennikov
Sometimes the city suddenly grows quieter than usual. The streetlights stand like sentries, but their light does not oppress—it whispers...
You walk along a familiar street and feel that beneath the asphalt there is an ancient path. It is not visible to everyone. Because it is your Path alone.
On the left, shop windows sparkle; on the right, garish signs shout, but you walk straight ahead—as if entering a portal to your Ancient Experience, your past lives, which you do not remember but know existed...
Suddenly, a narrow passageway opens, as if an invisible door had been drawn in the air. No signs, no shouting advertisements: “Enrollment is open, enlightenment in three days, only with us...”
He had long thought he was looking for a School.
He looked at websites, read books, listened to teachers—and everything was like a beautifully painted door behind which... he could not see Himself. The vibration was wrong, or there were too many words, or too many people gathered around a guru carried like an icon. And somewhere inside was a strange, rather uncomfortable feeling: “I have not yet been invited.” As if the One Who Was Meant to Call Him was still silent...
But today, in this Silence, in the light of the streetlights, he saw precisely the door behind which he could imagine Himself.
Inside, there is no one but Light.
And here there is an indistinct feeling that you have not come to someone—you have come to Yourself. You have come Home.
You were awaited here because the Power had already chosen you.
This is not a place on a map, nor a 21-day course.
It is as if, in the very depths of the universe, someone once spoke your name—and the sound, like a vibration in an ancient cave, had been flying toward you all this time, since the moment of your birth.
And you lived all this time while the call flew toward you.
Toward you alone.
And then, suddenly, it reached you...
You began to recognize this Place.
This is a School.
The Teacher’s name is not written in chalk on a blackboard here.
It is remembered deep within Yourself.
Here, the teacher is not a person.
No one will say: “Sit up straighter, make a donation, here is a mantra for you”...
This teacher begins speaking with you in the trembling between exhalation and inhalation, in that tiny instant of Life where, for most people, there is nothing, and for only a few—Gates into Life.
And here you are, among the chosen, at first peering beyond these Gates, and then finding the courage to enter this invisible Door...
In the evening, when the moon rises above the rooftops—round and attentive—you suddenly discern a quiet fire within yourself.
Not one that burns, but one that makes space transparent, like mountain air at dawn. It rises from the bottom upward—vertebra by vertebra—and in each vertebra, it is as though a little bell is ringing.
And now you are no longer a person—but a peal of bells in the highest tower of Being...
And you understand that all this time you had been living with your eyes closed.
But from this moment on, everything begins to shine.
Even ordinary things shine.
You walk down the street—and the space is faintly lit from within.
The same houses, the same people, the same bakery with its tired cashier...
But the world seems to have been shifted half a tone upward.
Dreams cease to be subconscious garbage—they become beautiful patterns, letters about Love, greeting cards...
The world ceases to be accidental.
You think: “But where is the book? Where are the instructions? Where am I supposed to pay so they will grant me access to the course?”—and immediately notice your palm reaching toward your chest on its own, as though opening an invisible page. On it is a single line, just one word: “Breathe.”
At night, the moon draws closer. It seems that if you stretched out your hand, you could touch its rough light. The silver on its face is like a seal on your Diploma: you have completed all the courses in the world.
Everything is as it has always been, but you are already different.
The whole world has become a School for you.
Encounters become lessons.
You learn through communicating—with the talkative taxi driver, with the child in the park watching you intently, with the grumbling woman at the post office...
Each one is as though the bearer of a single letter from a great Word.
One that you must read.
But not now. When the time comes.
Silence becomes a voice.
You sit, and “nothing is happening,” while someone very ancient and very tender whispers wordlessly within: “Yes. That’s right. Well done. Keep going.”
You chose this Door.
You chose this Fire.
You became one of those who came Here.
But others run from this FIRE.
Because fire does not only warm—it burns away everything unnecessary.
It asks: “Is this yours? And this? And that resentment from last year? And that guilt from yesterday’s argument? And that habit of being unhappy? And that teacher’s role you love so much?”...
And many are afraid. “No, no, let’s have a meditation for luck and money instead! Better yet, enlightenment in 3 days! Or a mantra for a thousand rubles”...
And others dissolve into this Fire and become Light.
It embraces them like a Loving Being, in whose arms you forget everything in the world.
And remember only Yourself.
It is like a mother waking her child: “Get up, it’s already dawn—why are you sleeping in a world where you can fly?”
And those who run from this Fire will still have time to return. The world closes its doors to no one—it simply knows how to wait. And those who have found their Door dissolve in the flames like snow in April.
But they do not disappear.
You will see them again tomorrow, simply a little different: a little naive, a little funny, a little quiet.
They walk the streets and do not preach—because True Light does not persuade. It simply is; it simply waits.
And when you encounter it, you suddenly understand: the School is here, a step away from you, in the heart, in the pause between breaths.
The Teacher speaks when you finally begin to listen.
