On December 21, 2024, an important cosmic event will take place—the Day of the Winter Solstice.
This is the period when the new Sun is born. This is precisely the moment of its birth.
And from this moment, the Sun begins to grow.
Just as an infant contains all its potential for its entire life, the newborn Sun contains all the potential for the entire coming year.
And it is important not to miss this opportunity.
To take in this yearly energy—the energy for every area of life.
So that we have an abundance of it throughout the year.
Also part of tomorrow’s Puja.
Sacred geometry.
The Flower of Life is at the center.
And many different shapes.
Equilateral triangles, a hexagon (honeycomb), and so on.
And as we know, there are 12 names of the Sun God.
We know them well from performing the Surya Namaskar sequence.
SURYA NAMASKAR
1. OM MITRAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the universal friend."
The Sun is truly a friend to the entire universe, endlessly bestowing light, warmth, and energy to sustain the lives of living beings.
In the scriptures, Mitra is described as awakening people to activity and looking upon all creation without discrimination, just as the Sun signals the beginning of daytime activity early in the morning and casts its light upon all living things.
2. OM RAVAYE NAMAH – "Salutations to the radiant one."
As the source of light, the Sun is called Ravaya—the one who shines and reveals divine radiance throughout all life.
3. OM SURYAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the bearer of light."
Through this mantra, the Sun is presented in the dynamic aspect of the solar deity—Surya. The Sun inspires people to be active, and in this role it is called Surya. Surya symbolically expresses our primordial principle of awareness in the form of the "inner sun," which moves along a closed orbit through the universe of our body via the central channels.
4. OM BHANAVE NAMAH – "Salutations to the one who illuminates."
The Sun does not merely shine; the Sun enlightens us. That is why it is called Bhanava. The Sun is the physical embodiment of the guru or teacher who dispels the darkness of our delusions, just as the darkness of night is dispelled with each dawn.
5. OM KHAGAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the one who moves through the sky."
The Sun represents time for us, which is why it is called Khagaya. The Sun moves across the sky and allows us to see the passage of time. The Sun grants strength and happiness to those who are punctual and precise in all their affairs. And, of course, the Sun bestows all its grace upon those who pay close attention to the alternation of day and night—meaning they try not to miss a single ray of sunlight, while remaining calm and peaceful during the hours of darkness.
6. OM PUSHNE NAMAH – "Salutations to the giver of the strength of life, who nourishes all."
The Sun is the source of all strength, which is why it is called Pushne. Like a father, it nourishes us with energy, light, and life. The strength of the mind, physical strength, and strength of spirit—all of these are manifestations of the Sun’s grace. Therefore, we depend on it completely in every aspect of our lives.
7. OM HIRANYAGARBHAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the supreme Light in the form of a golden, radiant sphere."
Hiranya Garbha means the seed of causality, the golden egg from which the Universe arose. Before its manifestation, the entire cosmos existed in a condensed causal, potential state in the form of a sphere of light, where energy and consciousness were united inseparably. The Sun also awakens human creative activity, which is why it is called Hiranya Garbha. This means that the Sun represents the power of creativity, the power of all cosmic creation.
8. OM MARICHAYE NAMAH – "Salutations to the radiant Lord of dawn."
The Sun dispels illusions and mirages. That is why it is called Marichi. The luminous power of the Sun, as radiant wisdom, guides consciousness toward enlightenment. The darkness of ignorance and delusion is dispersed as consciousness awakens. The mirages of illusion (marichi in Sanskrit) disappear with the rising of the Sun—the symbol of clarity of mind.
9. OM ADITYAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the son of Aditi."
In the ancient teachings of the Vedas, Aditi is one of the many names of the divine cosmic mother Mahashakti—the Universal Energy. She is the prototype of the Supreme Power of existence, from which all forms of energy and life are born. The Sun, as the unified principle of energy and intelligence, is her perfect son.
10. OM SAVITRE NAMAH – "Salutations to the Impeller."
The Sun is an awakening force. That is why it is addressed as Savitri. The Sun brings people to life at dawn and enables them to achieve their goals.
11. OM ARKAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the one worthy of praise."
Arka means the fierce energy of burning and heat. In the spiritual sense, this heat reflects the flame of the spirit, enthusiasm, and determination in the struggle against one’s own shortcomings, and manifests the inner fire of the mind and the fire of vital energy (tejas). Active, ascetic spiritual practice (tapas) generates a process of inner heat in which all impurities—physical and mental—are burned away, leading to the renewal of the body and purification of the soul. On the external level, through repetition of this mantra, the yogin reduces the effect of summer heat by releasing tension, relaxing, and removing barriers to the external heat. Then the "inner" and "outer" fires become balanced, and a person does not suffer from the scorching rays of the summer Sun.
12. OM BHASKARAYA NAMAH – "Salutations to the one who leads to enlightenment."
A tribute to the Sun as the great source of all transcendental powers and spiritual states of consciousness, the embodied symbol of Absolute Truth. The Sun of the mind illuminates our path to final Liberation and Enlightenment—the path we have walked for many lifetimes in pursuit of the highest Realization. May it be revealed to us through the power of the light of wisdom!
