"For many modern people, it would be more beneficial to visit hospitals than museum exhibitions" (c) Sergei Veretennikov.
We discussed this phrase on my Telegram channel:
The discussion turned out to be vivid and substantive.
To be honest, I did not even expect people to find things in this phrase that I myself had never thought about
And I am amazed by the inquisitiveness of many participants.
I once had an experience in my life.
In fact, it is one of the reasons this phrase came to me in the first place.
I worked at the Khimmash plant in Oryol. It was sometime around 1993, immediately after graduating from the institute, where I had spent five years studying to become an engineer. So I worked as a shop-floor supervisor.
Everyone in the workshop was under my supervision: turners, solderers, grinders, assemblers, stampers, and ten more specialties!
That was a huge number of people.
We made samovars
Yes, Oryol samovars.
Painted and beautiful...
One day, a turner did not come to work for two days. He was having an affair with a grinder...
And the grinder was worried. Where had he disappeared to?
She went to the workshop manager. And, in short, I was assigned to visit with her—or, to put it more precisely—all the hospitals and morgues...
Something like that.
I should say right away that I did not care where I went, as long as I did not have to work
And I did not even look into the details: why, what for, and so on.
They told me to go, so I went.
And we literally went around the central hospitals and morgues. The grinder was mostly rushing around, going to the right people and finding out whether her man was there...
For me personally, it was like a sightseeing tour.
At some point, I simply began to notice that the hospitals were packed with people with very sad faces.
I had never seen such a concentration of suffering in ordinary life.
And every time I see, now or in the past, people carelessly wasting their life resources and treating their health unseriously, I remember that strange tour of mine.
There are large pictures of cancer and so on on cigarette packs. People see them when they start smoking. But they keep smoking anyway.
I know that even if someone suddenly decided to walk around hospitals, it would change something in the wrong way they live only for a few people.
Still, it is strange that we have plenty of places people pay to visit in order to distract themselves from THE MAIN THING—exhibitions, museums, and so on, for example. But there are no tours of hospitals.
Now there is even a wave of psychotic esotericists who believe that if they do not know about ALL THIS, it will not happen to them.
That is the stupidest position of all. It is Knowledge that makes a person free, wise, and happy—not running away from it.
No animal will return to a place where it felt bad a second time. For example, a dog that was frightened by a gunshot in a certain area will avoid it.
Except for one animal: humans. They will keep going back to places where their problems arise, forgetting and forgetting again that their health is constantly threatened there. For example, to a beer bar. Or to parties with alcohol. And so on.
Be wise, like animals.
Somehow, Humanity has sunk to a level below that of its lesser brothers.
