Namaste!
I would like to suggest a discussion on the topic of birthdays. This thought came to me because a family member’s birthday is approaching, and they will be traveling on that day.
What do I know and feel about birthdays?
It is a special day when subtle worlds are likely to open up to the birthday person. A day when a person is especially sensitive. It is very difficult to maintain balance.
I feel this especially strongly myself. My emotions are heightened and intensified.
How should this day be spent? Here are recommendations I managed to hear from someone knowledgeable.
Get up very, very early—in the dark. Before 4 a.m. Sometimes I set my alarm for 3:30. Send out a request and try to receive, in silence, the most important “assignment” for the year of life that is beginning.
It is desirable to accept non-material gifts. But how to explain this to those around you is another challenge. There were years when I seem to have gone too far and refused gifts and congratulations; now I am a little more relaxed about it. They want to give gifts—so I should accept them. But if they did not give anything, it seems it would be easier. For me. But what about them? It is difficult for them.
And spend more time in nature on that day. That is optimal.
That is probably all I know about this subject.
I invite everyone who wishes to discuss this and, if they like, answer one or more of the following questions:
1. What is the best way to congratulate someone? Through thoughtful gestures, but without a material component? Or does it depend on the person—for some people, it is probably necessary to give something tangible as well.
2. What should we do about children? I would like not to get them accustomed to expecting gifts—and more of them—on this day. To be honest, it is not really working so far.
3. What can you add—how should one spend this day, one’s birthday? Which practices are especially valuable?
Thank you all in advance for sharing your thoughts on this! )
