I have already written about alcohol on the Your Yoga website. More than once. Those who read my articles and practices have read about it.
The topic is difficult for many people. For example, the topic of weapons. “Is a pistol good or bad?” Yes, it kills. But my grandfather fought in the war and came home without a leg. “He killed people, someone might say...” But even the question cannot be posed that way for me. It is not correct in my view. I do not believe that he killed people. It would be wrong to put it that way, because it is something taken out of context.
That was not murder. And the pistol or machine gun has nothing to do with it.

Alcohol is exactly the same. In excess, it is very harmful. In small quantities, literally drop by drop, it is one of the most valuable medicines.

What do the foundational Ayurvedic scriptures, writing from the depths of the ages, tell us? Let me say at once that this refers to the RIGHT kind of alcohol and medicinal quantities.

Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita:

1. It increases appetite, stimulates the digestive fire, tones the heart, improves the voice and complexion, creates a feeling of refreshment and fullness (satiety), increases strength, and dispels fear, sorrow, and fatigue.

2. Those suffering from insomnia will fall into beneficial sleep after taking alcohol. It also stimulates speech in the timid.

3. For those who sleep excessively, it helps maintain wakefulness and relieves constipation.

4. It gives the mind insensitivity to misfortunes caused by injury, imprisonment, and fatigue.

5. Alcohol cures illnesses caused by improper and excessive alcohol consumption.

6. It stimulates passion and gaiety in old men and women.

7. It is the embodiment of (erotic) passion and, when associated with an object (of the senses), increases the enjoyment of the pleasure (it evokes).

8. The first stage of intoxication has no equal in this world in the pleasure experienced by young or old people from the five pleasant sense objects.

9. It gives respite to those suffering from many troubles and sorrows.”

....................................

63–64. Wines stimulate digestion, increase appetite, penetrate deep into the tissues, are hot in virya, produce a feeling of happiness and strengthen the body, are slightly sweet, bitter, and pungent, slightly astringent, sour at the end of digestion, laxative, promote eloquence, health, intelligence, complexion, and a good physique. Easily digested, they are beneficial for those suffering from insomnia or excessively prolonged sleep and weakness. Wines are non-unctuous, penetrate even the smallest pores, open and cleanse them, and balance vata and kapha doshas. They possess all these qualities only when used reasonably; otherwise, they are like poison.

65–66. Young wines are poorly digested and lead to the accumulation and increase of all three doshas.
Aged wines possess the opposite qualities. They should not be drunk hot, in a hot climate, etc., by people taking laxatives, or on an empty stomach; very strong or very diluted wines, very thin or very thick wines, as well as soured wines, should not be used for drinking.

67. Beer treats intestinal tumors, bloating, hemorrhoids, diseases of the duodenum, and consumption. It lubricates the gastrointestinal tract, is difficult to digest, balances vata dosha, and leads to an increase in fat, blood, breast milk, urine, and kapha.

69. Beer brewed from terminalia bellirica (bibhitaki, bhibitaki, which is part of the “Triphala” mixture) does not cause strong intoxication, is easily digested, is good for health, is less harmful than other types of beer, and is used for wounds, anemia, and skin diseases.

70. Barley beer causes constipation, is difficult to digest, is non-unctuous, and increases all three doshas.

71–72. Fermented decoctions, when used as antidotes, possess the properties of the substances from which they are prepared; they are the most intoxicating of all alcoholic beverages and treat diseases of the duodenum, anemia, skin diseases, bleeding, dropsy, fainting, bloating, fever, intestinal tumors, worms, and diseases of the spleen. They are astringent and pungent and increase vata dosha.

72. Grape wines are especially beneficial for the heart, are not very hot in virya, are sweet and laxative, slightly increase vata and pitta doshas, and treat anemia, bleeding, diabetes, and worms.

73–74. Date wine is inferior to grape wine, increases vata dosha, and is difficult to digest.

Wine prepared with sugar has a sweet aroma, is sweet to the taste, is good for the heart, is easily digested, and does not cause much intoxication.

Wine prepared with black molasses is diuretic, increases stool and menstruation, is easily digested, and increases the feeling of hunger.

Sugarcane wine promotes the accumulation of vata and pitta doshas, reduces the secretion of the mucous glands, and treats kapha disorders, obesity, dropsy, bloating, and bleeding. The best is made from boiled sugarcane.

75. Mead increases blood, pitta, and kapha, causes vata dosha to move downward, is very hot in virya, easily penetrates the tissues, and treats diabetes, nasal polyps, and coughs.

76. Wine prepared from rhizomes and tubers thins the blood, pitta, and kapha, causes vata dosha to move downward, is very hot in virya, penetrates deep into the tissues, causes dryness and acidosis, is good for the heart, increases appetite, is laxative, is cold to the touch, treats anemia and eye diseases, and expels worms.

77. Preparations made with molasses, sugarcane, honey, and grapes are easily digested because of their good qualities.

78. Fermented infusions prepared from rhizomes, tubers, fruits, etc. resemble wine made from rhizomes and tubers in their qualities. Prepared and used with shandaki [шарики из жаренного риса-падди, смешанного со специями, высушенного на солнце и обжаренного в масле] and other substances (such as crackers or chips) kept in salt for some time, they increase appetite and are quickly digested.

79–80. Dhanyamala [алкогольный напиток, приготовленный из ферментированной воды, в которой некоторое время варился или только отмачивался рис, фасоль и др.] is laxative, penetrates deep into the tissues, is hot in virya, leads to the accumulation of pitta dosha, is cold to the touch, dispels fatigue and treats fainting, increases hunger and appetite, treats bladder pain, is ideal for a decoction enema, is good for strengthening health, is easily digested, and balances vata and kapha doshas.

Sauviraka [Алкогольный напиток, крепость которого ниже 15 %.] and Tushodaka [Ячменный алкогольный напиток] possess similar qualities and treat worm infestations, heart diseases, bloating, bleeding, and anemia. They are prepared from cleaned and uncleaned barley, respectively.

Charaka Samhita:

People with a vata constitution should drink alcohol after:

massage (Abhyanga)
oiling (Utsadana)
bathing (Snana)
smoking (Dhupana)
application of ointments (Snigdha Anu lepana)
a meal that is oily and hot

Pitta types may drink alcohol after cold, sweet, and oily dishes.

Kapha types should take alcohol after hot dishes, together with food prepared from barley, wheat, and the meat of animals inhabiting arid regions, with the addition of black pepper…. For them, drinking alcohol is beneficial only when the appropriate preliminary procedures have been completed, and it should be consumed in the proper quantity.

For people with a vata constitution, alcohol made from cane sugar and wheat is beneficial. For kapha, alcohol made from honey. For pitta, alcohol made from grapes.

The same samhita also states that excessive alcohol consumption destroys ojas—the vital force—which creates a powerful foundation for disease and rapid aging. It also damages the brain.

There are three stages of intoxication caused by alcohol consumption:
  1. The first stage: ojas is not disturbed, but the heart is stimulated (considered beneficial)
  2. The second stage: ojas is slightly disturbed (considered destructive)
  3. The third stage: ojas is completely disturbed, leading to intoxication (considered highly destructive).
People of a sattvic type become more cheerful and positive.
People in a state of rajas or tamas display destructive tendencies, especially those in tamas, with whom drinking is not even recommended.

The Charaka Samhita also states that alcohol can be nectar, but it can also be poison.

Positive properties of correctly consuming the RIGHT kind of alcohol (verses 61, 62)

exhilaration (Harsha)
energy (Urja)
happiness (mental satisfaction, Mudam)
nourishment (Pushti)
good health (Aarogyam)
excellent courage (Paurushyam)
pleasant instant intoxication (Sukha madya)

And much more is said in praise of properly consumed alcohol: that it dispels fear and prolongs life...

What is the right kind of alcohol?

For example, what are called Ayurvedic wines. These are wines made from the juice of medicinal plants or their decoctions, with various types of sugar or honey added. Not simply sugar like our white sugar, but natural sugar, such as evaporated cane juice—jaggery, gur, and so on.
Essentially, all these wines can be made at home. They are prepared practically the same way as homemade wine.
In the CIS countries, for example, they can be made from purchased powders: boil them with water and add cane sugar.
The result will be wine. It should be allowed to stop fermenting. Then drink no more than a teaspoon or, at most, a tablespoon.

Of course, it can also simply be good grape wine. Naturally, without any colorings, etc.—that is, natural wine from a reliable producer or homemade wine.

Веретенников Сергей Веретенников Сергей , I recently received a parcel from India, from Vrindavan, containing Arishtas. Is what you described today the same thing? As it was written on the Your Yoga website, I started taking one type, one tablespoon twice a day. I wanted to ask about taking Arishtas: can one take only one type per day, or can one take different types while keeping the dosage at two tablespoons per day?

Different ones are fine. Yes, they are about the same thing.
If you mean the ones I wrote about, they are the best that can currently be found through the mail. A good company.
I meant one teaspoon or one tablespoon at a time. For example, one tablespoon of one remedy after breakfast and another after lunch.

We have very tasty grape wines. They have always been considered beneficial in very small quantities. And I loved their taste—dry or semi-sweet reds. In the past, several times a year on various occasions, I would drink a sip or two. Only red wine. For the third year now, I have felt an inner barrier before wine, before alcohol of any kind.
OM Shanti, is it permissible for Brahmins to “taste” wine? Even the most beneficial Ayurvedic wines, and in such small quantities?

, first of all, we need to state the Ayurvedic principle—it lies outside any systems, including religious ones. Ayurveda considers everything to be medicine. What matters is only the quantity, the rules of intake, the timing, and so on.
Arishtas, or wines, are considered the fastest-acting medicines. This is especially important for elderly people, for whom not only days but even hours can often make all the difference.
Everyone needs health. Brahmins do too.
And this is what we need to proceed from.
Moreover, it is important to understand what a particular product is used for. An alcoholic uses it to forget himself. A Brahmin uses it when necessary—to improve his health, live longer, and have more strength... Why? To serve people and the world better. The goals are different.
When a person is dying and a sip of wine could help, but he fanatically says, “NO, it’s WINE, it’s forbidden...”
That is bad.
He is not even a Brahmin. He is a fool.
A Brahmin is a reasonable person.

Yes, Ayurveda is for everyone and for every situation.
Thank you, Teacher! First—the goal!! Second—extremes. Once, during Ekadashi, about two years ago, I had a fever. I felt very ill at night and wanted to drink, but I held out until morning, until Ekadashi ended. In the end, I was bedridden for two or three days. Will we ever become reasonable?

It is important to repeat once again that wines from ordinary stores are not suitable. You should forget about this possibility altogether.
The only exception is if you live somewhere in Georgia, etc., in a winemaking region—in that case, the chances of buying the right wine are higher if you understand wines.
If you do not live in such places, you can search online for regions with an ancient winemaking tradition and order from a producer.
Nowadays, you can find anything on the internet.
But you should not buy wine in stores. In principle, there is no wine there at all, despite the shelves being packed with products and the labels possibly saying anything “proving” high quality.
And, of course, you should bear in mind that real wine cannot be cheap. $50–100 is the price of more or less good wine.
And I will repeat once again that this concerns use only in medicinal quantities—in essence, measured in drops, by the teaspoon.

Alcohol is not a foreign substance to our bodies. In small quantities, it is always present in our bodies as a product of digestion.

The word “alcohol” itself is interesting. As I have already said, it was invented by the Egyptians—or, more precisely, it was simply given by the Gods as the elixir of life. That is the story according to Egyptologists.

Your Yoga. Ayurvedic Wine. Arishta

So: Al Cogol.
Al—also El (hence the drink ale, also known as cider, suritsa)—has many meanings. One of them is soul, holy, saintly, or supreme.
Hence alchemy and the like.

“Ko” means “joint” or “shared.”
And “gol”—“gul”—is one of the seven Arabic varieties of jinn.

Essentially, this translates as “holy jinn.”

To this day, there are debates about whether Jesus Christ drank wine.

Alcohol is so powerful that it can subjugate a person.

We all know that throughout history, a huge number of people have been willing to give up EVERYTHING for it. Money, all their money, their health, all their personal happiness… Absolutely everything.

In other words, this is no joke. It is a truly tremendous force, and controlling it is not easy.

There is a wonderful saying:

Fools must not drink.
Only intelligent people may drink.
And an intelligent person will not drink.

Your Yoga. How to Quit Drinking on Your Own or Help Someone Else Quit

It should also be added that alcohol and alcohol-containing products are used not only for internal consumption, but also for various compresses.
Alcohol has the unique property of penetrating literally between the body’s molecules—inside it. Substances bound to alcohol penetrate as well. This is the principle behind various tinctures.

The only equivalent of such tinctures is urine.
It literally contains acetone. That is why it smells the way it does. Excuse me.
Acetone and alcohol have similar effects when used externally.
Those who have lived in the countryside know that this is the main treatment used by all grandmothers: apply a urine compress to the affected area.
And specifically urine that has been left standing for some time. This really is an ancient remedy.

But alcohol-containing products can be used instead of urine. In my view, this is not as unpleasant.

I have always used pure medical alcohol for medical purposes; it is always in my first-aid kit. I even take it with me when traveling, along with iodine, salt, baking soda, and honey. My grandmother taught me.
I used it to bring down or reduce the temperature of children and grandchildren by diluting it with water and wiping literally the entire body, especially the palms, soles, and temples. It is also a disinfectant. For headaches—massaging the palms and fingers. And somehow, the method of using it when needed comes naturally.
Thank you, Teacher. It is so heartening to find your confirmation of the skills passed down by my grandmothers.

Apple cider vinegar is also an alcoholic product.
And it is very beneficial.

It is autumn now, and you have plenty of opportunities to make apple cider vinegar yourself.

One could talk about this alcoholic product for a very long time.

Thank you, OM Shanti. Some time ago, we had a craze for the benefits of apple cider vinegar (a long time ago): everyone made it at home, shared it, drank it, treated themselves with it, gave massages... Then it was forgotten.
I tried making it several times too, but it did not turn out well. This time, I feel it will work; I have gained an inner confidence. And I have lots of apples of my own. In general, this year has been incredibly abundant in fruit. I don't know if it is like this everywhere. We have literally been overwhelmed with fruit; we can barely keep up with picking, preserving, and giving it away (the children even posted an announcement on Facebook: people!! come and pick some and take it home for your health!).
Perhaps I will start tomorrow.

It is very harmful in excess. In small quantities, literally drop by drop, it is one of the most valuable medicines.
I agree that alcohol as medicine, drop by drop, is probably for conscious people. If there were people with drinking problems in your family line, it is better to give up alcohol altogether or drink it in moderation. Alcohol harms the liver, brain cells, and other organs. Alcohol has a cumulative effect; you may not immediately realize its harm.
(from something I observed in life)

I didn't have my old recipes for making apple cider vinegar anymore, so I searched for new ones online.
Here, for example, is a video I liked more than the others.

There are videos where yeast is added to chopped apples. I have doubts about using yeast.

That's it, I am beginning the healing-magical procedure. It lasts approximately two months.

2021-09-12_19-00-13_989.jpg My apples, picked the day before yesterday.

I will describe the details in the Ashram.

When I was studying under Professor and Doctor of Ayurveda Sarashetti, I heard him say that there is a certain product that could literally be called an elixir of health.
He even wrote an entire book about it. But this book is not sold in shops or online. It has a very limited print run, intended only for his students. When I studied under him, he literally worshipped this divine PRODUCT. And I want to emphasize once again: he is an official professor of Ayurveda in India.

What is especially remarkable is that this product is known to everyone. It is very easy to obtain, literally at home, literally within one day. It costs next to nothing. And you can have it every day. And use it every day...

I want to share this knowledge with you:
