Namaste! I would like to share my experience and reflections on the subject of “Autonomy.”
People always say: “If you don’t try, you’ll never know.” To attempt something, you first need to become deeply inspired, believe in yourself, and take the first step.
We are fortunate to have a Teacher who never tires of inspiring us and gives us knowledge and information that leave no room for doubt. All that remains is to act decisively and gain our own experience.
On Thursday, November 5, as usual, I did not feel like sleeping. I was not troubled by any problems; I simply could not sleep. I was glad about this and decided to practice autonomy: not eat or drink after the night, and then see what happened. I practiced breathing and level-two Ra-fields — Reprogramming Technique — removing the programs requiring sleep and food, cleansing the blood, harmonizing the psyche, and various level-three fields — Light Double Technique.
Walking alone around the settlement at night was not very comfortable or safe, especially with the icy conditions. I lacked movement and live communication; you cannot jump around in the house, and I was the only one awake.
In the morning, everything went as usual, in order: hardening, Sadhana… I did not feel like eating, moved around a lot, did physically demanding work outdoors, and practiced as on an ordinary day. And yet, it was unusual.
When I had fasted before, with or without water, it had simply been a fast. But without sleep, I felt an inner freedom, as if something invisible had released me, and my soul was filled with joy. I experienced autonomy with all the awareness I possessed. I realized my dependence on food and sleep as clearly as if I were looking at it from the outside, and the temptations of my mind and senses no longer seemed stronger than my reason.
I prepared food for my husband with more pleasure, care, and inspiration than ever before.
In the evening, I went for a walk. I did not feel like sleeping, but I understood that without conversation or active movement I would not manage and would fall asleep toward morning or even earlier, disrupting my usual routine, so I went to bed. I got up easily at around 4 a.m.; everything was fine, except for a sticky sweetness in my mouth. I rinsed my mouth periodically. At 3 p.m. I drank baking soda dissolved in water, and some time later a tablespoon of warm ghee. At 5 p.m. I drank vegetable juice.
I did not stop hardening practices; after pouring water over myself, I felt even fresher and more vigorous. It is a real boost of energy, despite having a vata dosha and a low weight, with no excess.
I planned an oil massage with warming, carried it out, and was very pleased. Some changes were taking place inside me. On all the following days, I did not feel very hungry, ate very little, and sensed changes.
On November 10, I ate only grapes and a few nuts at lunchtime. I did not eat in the evening, and on the night before Ekadashi I practiced autonomy again.
During a walk, I felt warmth in my knees. The wind was damp and cold; I had no food in me, yet my knees radiated warmth. While walking, I practiced “silver nails.” Ekadashi went well; there was no dryness or stickiness in my mouth. The following night I slept. I ended the fast with some water and ghee, ate fruit at 2 p.m., and in the evening had pumpkin porridge with rice. Strong changes are taking place inside me, as if a fire is being kindled: I eat something, and pleasant warmth spreads throughout my body from within. This happened twice.
Warm currents move through my legs here and there; they hum and vibrate. During pranayama, something happens in my abdomen behind the navel, as if a vortex is spinning up. During autonomy, my third eye also became active: flashes of light appeared in the darkness and space, a light switched on above my head like a lamp, and light appeared in my head. During the day, a multicolored aura appeared before my eyes, like the effect of looking at a candle.
Now that I have felt the difference between sleep and conscious wakefulness, I have decided to gradually and sensibly reduce my sleep. When you are awake, you are switched on, and mechanical programs become much more noticeable; everything becomes clearer and more conscious. When you sleep, you do not have time to notice the mechanical nature of things; there is no awareness, there is little time, and every day is the same “Groundhog Day”: switched on, switched off. Our brains already function at only a fraction of their capabilities, and then we add sleep — shutting down. When will the brain develop?
During autonomy, you feel more whole, not damaged or incomplete, and more self-sufficient. It was as if I had looked beyond the limits of my abilities, and now I know for certain: I can.
I have experienced a great deal of rethinking during this time.
My conclusion is this: I will resolutely continue practicing autonomy, spontaneously when circumstances allow, and during Ekadashi, обязательно without sleep. For me, sleep is a very strong anchor, and everything else follows from it. The main thing is to plan what to do and alternate movement with monotonous activities.
I also realized that all our problems come from a lack of real communication, genuine communication from soul to soul. We have all shut ourselves off from one another with our fears, empty concerns, and problems, and in this prison we have lost ourselves. How poor and sorrowful our lives are: we dream of an illusory happiness that enslaves us, while rejecting Absolute Happiness.
Autonomy is Choice, Responsibility, Creativity, and Freedom; it is another dimension of reality.
